Natif de Trois-Rivières, au Québec, Martin Goneau est illustrateur professionnel depuis 1998. Œuvrant principalement dans le secteur de l’édition jeunesse, sa démarche artistique a grandement évolué au fil des années. Abordant à ses débuts principalement l’aspect technique de la production visuelle, il a depuis développé une importante réflexion sur le travail d’interprétation relié à la nature de l’illustration. Il s’intéresse notamment au rapport entre la couleur et la forme.
Ayant illustré une vingtaine d’albums au Canada et aux États-Unis, il collabore actuellement en tant que directeur artistique à la fondation d’une nouvelle maison d’édition qui mettra l’accent sur le travail de création des auteurs et illustrateurs.
Finalement, sa création artistique s’est muée ces dernières années en un double questionnement où il souhaite utiliser les outils langagiers de l’illustration jeunesse et populaire pour aborder des thèmes abstraits et fondamentaux de l’existence.
Born in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Martin Goneau has been working as a professional illustrator since 1998. Mostly involved in book illustration for children’s publishing, his artistic process has greatly evolved throughout the years. Earlier in his career, he dealt mostly with the technical aspect of visual creation, moving on to further reflection about the interpretive nature of illustration. He is particularly interested in the relationship between colour and form.
Having completed the illustrations of about twenty books in Canada and the United States, he is currently working on the co-foundation of a new publishing house, as Artistic Director, that will focus on the creative work of authors and illustrators.
Finally, in recent years, his artistic work transformed into a dual questioning that he wishes to bring forth by using the literacy and language tools of children’s and popular illustration to address abstract and fundamental existential themes.
